BSI 2016 Revisions of Copper and Copper Alloy Standards

The following lists copper and copper alloy British Standards reissued so far in 2016, following the five-year review, with changes noted.

BS EN 12163:2016 Copper and copper alloys. Rod for general purposes
In comparison with EN 12163:2011, the following significant technical changes were made:

  1. introduction of an optional procedure how to refer to restrictions to the chemical composition imposed by the 4 MS Common Composition List for materials used for products accepted for contact with drinking water;
  2. requirements and test methods for resistance of dezincification modified;
  3. provisions for surface quality added;
  4. mechanical properties for CuZn21Si3P (CW724R) modified.

BS EN 12164:2016 Copper and copper alloys. Rod for free machining purposes
In comparison with EN 12164:2011, the following significant technical changes were made:

  1. addition of four new materials: CuZn37Pb1 (CW605N), CuZn35Pb1,5AlAs (CW625N), CuZn33Pb1,5AlAs (CW626N) and CuZn33Pb1AlSiAs (CW725R) due to the market requirements on restriction of lead and modification of the chemical composition for CuZn39Pb1 (CW611N);
  2. introduction of an optional procedure how to refer to restrictions to the chemical composition imposed by the 4 MS Common Composition List for materials used for products accepted for contact with drinking water;
  3. requirements and test methods for resistance of dezincification modified;
  4. provisions for surface quality added;
  5. mechanical properties for CuZn21Si3P (CW724R) modified.

BS EN 12165:2016 Copper and copper alloys. Wrought and unwrought forging stock
In comparison with EN 12165:2011, the following significant technical changes were made:

  1. addition of three new materials: CuZn35Pb1,5AlAs (CW625N), CuZn33Pb1,5AlAs (CW626N) and CuZn33Pb1AlSiAs (CW725R) due to the market requirements on restriction of lead and modification of the chemical composition for CuZn39Pb1 (CW611N);
  2. introduction of an optional procedure how to refer to restrictions to the chemical composition imposed by the 4 MS Common Composition List for materials used for products accepted for contact with drinking water;
  3. requirements and test methods for resistance of dezincification modified;
  4. provisions for surface quality added;
  5. mechanical properties for CuZn21Si3P (CW724R) modified.

In comparison with EN 12166:2011, the following significant technical changes were made:

  2. provisions for surface quality added.

BS EN 12167:2016 Copper and copper alloys. Profiles and bars for general purposes
In comparison with EN 12167:2011, the following significant technical changes were made:

  1. addition of four new materials: CuZn37Pb1 (CW605N), CuZn35Pb1,5AlAs (CW625N), CuZn33Pb1,5AlAs (CW626N) and CuZn33Pb1AlSiAs (CW725R) due to the market requirements on restriction of lead and modification of the chemical composition for CuZn39Pb1 (CW611N);

In comparison with EN 12168:2011, the following significant technical changes were made:

  1. addition of four new materials: CuZn37Pb1 (CW605N), CuZn35Pb1,5AlAs (CW625N), CuZn33Pb1,5AlAs (CW626N) and CuZn33Pb1AlSiAs (CW725R) due to the market requirements on restriction of lead and modification of the chemical composition for CuZn39Pb1 (CW611N);
  2. introduction of an optional procedure how to refer to restrictions to the chemical composition imposed by the 4 MS Common Composition List for materials used for products accepted for contact with drinking water;
  3. requirements and test methods for resistance of dezincification modified;
  4. provisions for surface quality added;

BS EN 12449:2016 Copper and copper alloys – Seamless, round tubes for general purposes
In comparison with EN 12449:2012, the following significant technical changes were made:

  1. Addition of the new material CuFe0,1Sn0,1P (CW125C);
  2. Modification of the elongation values for Cu-DHP (CW024A) in material condition R250 including new Table 16;
  3. Modification of iron and tin content for CuZn37Pb1 (CW605N) from 0,2 % to 0,3 % in Table 7;
  4. Replacement of the material number CW121C by CW124C for CuSi3Zn2P.

BS EN 12735-1:2016  Copper and copper alloys — Seamless, round tubes for air conditioning and refrigeration Part 1: Tubes for piping systems
In comparison with EN 12735-1:2010, the following significant technical changes were made:

  1. The size range of the outside diameter has been increased from133 mm to 219 mm;
  2. Nominal outside diameters have been added to Table 3;
  3. The alloy CuFe2P (CW107C) has been included;
  4. Sub-clause 8.6 (Freedom from defects test) has been revised and a new normative Annex B “Freedom from defects test” has been added.

BS EN 12735-2:2016 Copper and copper alloys — Seamless, round tubes for air conditioning and refrigeration Part 2: Tubes for equipment
In comparison with the first edition of EN 12735-2:2010, the following significant technical changes were made:

  1. The size range of the outside diameter has been increased from 3,97 mm up to 219 mm;
  2. Dimensions and tolerances for smooth tubes have been modified in Tables 2, 4 and 5. The tolerances given in Tables 3 and 6 have been added;
  3. Nominal outside diameters have been added to Table 1.

BS EN 13348:2016 Copper and copper alloys. Seamless, round copper tubes for medical gases or vacuum
The following significant technical changes were made:

  1. The size range of the outside diameters has been increased from 133 mm to 219 mm;
  2. Nominal outside diameters have been added to Table 1;
  3. Lubricant residue values for the new outside diameters have been added in 6.5;
  4. Sub-clause 8.7 has been revised and a new normative Annex B “Freedom from defects tests” has been added.
