Copper Innovations at Milan Design Week

Polish design studio Zieta Prozessdesign is set to showcase their latest sheet metal furniture systems and objects—featuring strong, innovative use of copper—at Milan Design Week’s Salone del Mobile, 12–17 April.

Celebrating the trend for warm-coloured metals such as copper, brass and bronze, Zieta’s timeless designs include their iconic Plopp stool and Chippensteel 0.5 chair, which will be displayed alongside their new 3+ system, a sheet metal furniture concept.

Their designs are realised using three primary technologies: PAKIET, which uses plywood in a smart way to minimise production costs and maximise mobility; 3+, which stabilises thin and light sheet metal with perforations, allowing users to play with elements as if they were building blocks; and FIDU, created through a process of controlled deformation or ‘blowing’ sheet metals such as copper.

Founded by top Polish designer Oskar Zięta, the studio’s motto is ‘all you need is less’. The Plopp stool and Chippensteel 0.5 chair have received numerous awards, including the Red Dot Design Award and the German Design Council Award in 2008, and the  Schweitzer Project Preis in 2009.

‘It has taken us years to fully understand and use all of FIDU’s capabilities,’ explains  Oskar Zięta. ‘Plopp is the product of understanding both the synergies of innovative technologies, and the properties of a noble material.

‘We love copper as it enables us to combine the forces of nature and humanity. It represents magic for us, as it gives you an impression of warmth and nobility.’

Salone del Mobile Milano and Milan Design Week are premier events that influence design trends that will likely become part of our everyday living spaces. This year’s event offers access to over 300,000 design companies from more than 160 countries and is expected to draw over 30,000 visitors for the weekend alone.

The most unique and iconic objects by Zieta Prozessdesign has chosen its most iconic pieces, combining innovative design with the art of craftsmanship, to showcase at the 2016 Milan Design Week in the following locations:
